Ukraine continues to strengthen defensive lines along the entire northern border with Belarus, State Border Guard Service spokesperson Andriy Demchenko said.
According to the spokesperson, the state border with Belarus, which stretches for 1,085 kilometers, is protected from enemy threats. However, efforts to further reinforce it are currently underway.
The strengthening of defenses is being carried out comprehensively with the participation of various security and defense forces:
- State Border Guard Service: border guards are conducting engineering work directly along the border line within their area of responsibility.
- Other components of the Defense Forces are also building fortifications.
- Local authorities: under the President’s instructions, local governments are expected to become more actively involved in the construction of defensive structures.
"The focus now is on scaling up the work that has already been done," Demchenko told RBC-Ukraine.
Threat from Belarus
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently outlined five Russian scenarios for expanding the war in northern Ukraine. One of those scenarios involves drawing Belarus into the war.
Belarus has held joint nuclear exercises with Russia, while officials in Minsk regularly accuse Ukraine of provocations. Recently, the Belarusian regime claimed that drones had allegedly attacked from Ukrainian territory.
According to analysts at the Institute for the Study of War, there are currently no signs of a ground invasion from Belarus.
However, Russia could use Belarusian territory to launch strikes on western regions of Ukraine.
