Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Bulgaria’s acting Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov signed a 10-year security agreement in Kyiv, Zelenskyy said during a joint press conference.

The President thanked the Bulgarian side for the visit, the talks, and the agreements reached. According to him, the teams of both countries had worked on the document for a long time, and now the sides have officially formalized cooperation for the next ten years.

Military cooperation

Among the key provisions of the agreement, Zelenskyy highlighted the continuation of Bulgaria’s military support for Ukraine. He also noted an agreement on joint weapons production in both countries, including drones.

"I believe this strengthens both our countries, both our nations," he said.

Energy corridor

Another important area, Zelenskyy said, is energy. He noted that the sides are working on an energy corridor which, with the necessary technical upgrades, could be ready by the end of the year.

"For us, this is very important today — at least, it could serve as an alternative if there are blockages from certain representatives in Europe," the Ukrainian leader added.

According to him, this could involve receiving around 10 billion cubic meters of gas annually.

PURL program

The President also thanked Bulgaria for its positive signal regarding joining the PURL program. He said this is an important sign of support and an additional opportunity to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense, especially ahead of the next heating season.

Zelenskyy also thanked Sofia for its consistent support for Ukraine’s future accession to the European Union. According to him, Bulgaria demonstrates a clear, transparent, and straightforward position regarding Kyiv’s European integration path.

"I am grateful for Bulgaria’s direct, transparent, and clear support for Ukraine’s future accession to the European Union. Thank you for this consistent policy and for this visit," he concluded.

Ukraine has already signed several bilateral security agreements with partner countries, including the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Denmark, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, Latvia, Spain, Belgium, Portugal, Sweden, Iceland, Norway, and the United States.

Later, the European Union, as well as Lithuania, Estonia, Japan, Poland, Luxembourg, Romania, Czechia, Slovenia, and Ireland also joined this list.
