Zelenskyy meets Syrian president: Countries pledge security and economic cooperation

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, resulting in agreements reached between the two countries.
According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine and Syria agreed to work together to ensure greater security and development opportunities for "our societies." The leaders also discussed a range of issues and expressed interest in exchanging experiences.
"We discussed the situation in the region and prospects for improving it. We also covered the circumstances of Russia's war against Ukraine, and I am grateful for the support. There is a strong interest in exchanging military and security experience. I appreciate the words of respect for our people," the president said.
In addition, the leaders addressed Ukraine's role as a reliable food supplier. In this context, they discussed joint opportunities to strengthen their countries' positions across the region.
"We fully understand the energy and infrastructure challenges Syria is facing today. We are ready to cooperate to expand the capabilities of our states and peoples," Zelenskyy added.

Zelenskyy in the Middle East
On April 5, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Syria on an official visit. He noted that Ukraine continues its active diplomacy to ensure "real security and economic cooperation." The president announced that important meetings are planned and several substantive formats have been prepared.
Yesterday, the media reported that Zelenskyy visited Türkiye, where he met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The leaders agreed to cooperate in the security sector and discussed steps to implement projects to develop gas infrastructure.
In addition, Erdoğan stated that Türkiye is ready to host the next round of peace talks between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia.
