"We're working hard to end that whole war. We're very close to doing it. We've almost done it," the US President said.

Talks in Abu Dhabi

On Thursday, February 5, the second round of talks between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia concluded in Abu Dhabi. The main outcome of the dialogue was a new prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia after a four-month pause.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine, the US, and Russia will hold a third round of talks, which is expected to take place soon.

The previous talks in the UAE were held on January 23–24. During that first trilateral meeting, Ukraine, Russia, and the US did not publicly disclose the results of their agreements.

Sources told RBC-Ukraine that progress was made in the military sphere, including possible troop withdrawals, ceasefire monitoring mechanisms, and the creation of a coordination center.

However, the territorial issue, which remains key, has not yet been resolved: Russia insists on withdrawing troops from Donbas, while Kyiv refuses to back down.

Recently, President Zelenskyy told reporters that territorial questions, especially regarding Donbas, remain the key.

According to analysts at the Institute for the Study of War, Russia’s territorial and political demands are much broader than the public statements about Donbas made for Western audiences.

Additionally, US Vice President JD Vance said that Trump made it clear to Russian leader Vladimir Putin that he had no right to attack Ukraine.
