US President Donald Trump clearly told Russian leader Vladimir Putin that he had no right to attack Ukraine, US Vice President JD Vance said in an interview with journalist Megyn Kelly.

According to him, Trump acknowledged that Putin had no right to attack Ukraine. At the same time, the US leader allowed for the possibility of engagement with Russia in certain areas where interests may overlap.

"And so when people say, well, you can't work with Putin on anything because you disagree with the Ukraine invasion. Well, the president said very clearly, Putin should not have invaded Ukraine. We're going to try to work and bring that to an end, but there might be some areas of cooperation, too," Vance said.

The US Vice President emphasized that this position reflects Trump's approach to foreign policy, which is based on pragmatism and prioritizing US national interests.

Vance also stressed that Trump does not divide the world into friends and enemies, but works with specific alliances and interests.

"We may disagree with Russia on a lot, but we may agree on some things. And I do think that is a fundamental reorientation. The other thing that's much different, Megan, about the president's foreign policy and just the way that he does business," he noted.

Talks in Abu Dhabi

Yesterday, February 4, another round of trilateral talks between the United States, Ukraine, and Russia began in Abu Dhabi. The discussions lasted about five hours. The talks are continuing today.

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine and head of the Ukrainian delegation, Rustem Umerov, said that today the delegations are working in the same formats as yesterday: trilateral consultations, work in groups, and further synchronization of positions.

As Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported in his evening address, following the first day of talks in Abu Dhabi, there is an agreement on a prisoner exchange. This could become the first exchange in the past four months.
