Russia's losses in Ukraine as of September 1: +1,440 troops and 1,775 drones

Ukraine's military has published its latest update on Russian battlefield losses, detailing personnel casualties and equipment destroyed over the past 24 hours.
The total Russian combat losses from February 24, 2022, to September 1, 2026 are estimated to be:
- Personnel ‒ nearly 1,489,640 (+1,440)
- Tanks ‒ 12,320 (+4)
- Armored fighting vehicles ‒ 25,257 (+2)
- Special equipment ‒ 4,623 (+2)
- Vehicles and fuel tanks ‒ 142,332 (+412)

Frontline situation
Ukrainian troops carried out a surprise infantry assault in the Kupiansk sector, clearing about 2 square kilometers of forest southwest of Zapadne and continuing to advance west of Dvorichna, according to ISW. Geolocated footage shows 15–20 Ukrainian soldiers moving into the wooded area, indicating a rapid tactical advance.
Ukrainian forces struck multiple Russian military targets in Russia and the occupied territories over the past 24 hours and overnight on August 31. Targets included a radar station and an S-400 command vehicle in the Bryansk region, a communications hub in Belgorod, a Russian drone command post near Huliaipole, and several logistics depots. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed.
