Scandalous Shufrych to lose his post of Committee on Freedom of Speech Chairman
The Verkhovna Rada (Ukraine's government) plans to dismiss MP Nestor Shufrych from the position of Chairman of the Committee on Freedom of Speech at the upcoming session. However, the dissolution of the Committee itself is not anticipated, says the Head of the "Servant of the People" faction, Yevheniya Kravchuk, in a comment to RBC-Ukraine.
"Undoubtedly, his (Shufrych's) dismissal will take place at the upcoming session. According to the information available now, the Committee will continue its work. The liquidation of this Committee would be, in some ways, strange, considering the possible headlines: 'Verkhovna Rada dissolves the Committee on Freedom of Speech.' This could be misinterpreted, especially in the conditions of a state of war," Yevheniya said.
At the same time, Shufrych's dismissal may take place this week, and his position is expected to be offered to someone from opposition factions or groups.
Shufrych's case
On September 15, the Security Service of Ukraine conducted a search at MP Shufrych's residence. Law enforcement officers found St. George ribbons, medals, orders, as well as a collection of Russian uniforms and Soviet documents at the MP's home.
According to RBC-Ukraine sources, a document outlining the autonomy scheme for Donetsk and Luhansk regions, dated 2014, was also found in the MP's possession. It bears the signature of former MP Viktor Medvedchuk, who is suspected of state treason.
Later, Shufrych was charged with state treason. The case revolves around his alleged collaboration with Vladimir Sivkovich, an FSB agent and former secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, who coordinated the Russian espionage network in Ukraine.
Following these developments, Shufrych was arrested.
