Russian attack on Ukrainian city Zaporizhzhia kills child, damages gas facilities, shuts Dnipro dam

Gas facilities in the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia were damaged in a Russian attack, prompting authorities to urge residents to minimize gas use. Traffic across the Dnipro dam has been suspended. Casualties and injuries have been reported, according to the head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, Ivan Fedorov, and the local gas company Zaporizhgaz.
What Russia used in the attack
According to preliminary data, Russian forces carried out at least seven drone strikes on Zaporizhzhia.
The enemy targeted residential areas and infrastructure facilities. Several fires broke out.
Consequences of the attack
During the night of October 9, Russian troops launched a massive strike on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Zaporizhzhia was also hit — gas facilities in the city were damaged, prompting specialists to urge residents and businesses to reduce their natural gas use temporarily.
"Due to the damage to gas facilities caused by enemy attacks, it is essential to limit the consumption of natural gas temporarily. We ask that gas appliances be used minimally until emergency repairs are completed — this is necessary to stabilize pressure in the network and avoid shutdowns," the company Zaporizhgaz reported.
According to Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, traffic across the Dnipro Hydroelectric Power Plant has been temporarily suspended.
"Another difficult night. The enemy attacked energy infrastructure facilities across the country. In Zaporizhzhia, traffic across the Dnipro dam is currently closed — this is a precautionary measure. Movement will resume as soon as the security situation allows," Fedorov said.
Specialists are already working to eliminate the consequences of the attack and restore stable gas supplies.
Casualties and injuries
It is known that four people were injured during the Russian attack. Later, authorities clarified that a 7-year-old boy who had been wounded in the night strike died in the hospital.
"Doctors fought for the child's life until the very end, but the injuries were too severe," Fedorov wrote.
