Russia officially announces a ceasefire from 00:00 on May 8 to May 10. During this period, all groups of Russian forces on the front are required to fully stop combat operations, according to a statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense.

Russia announces a halt to missile and artillery strikes, as well as long-range precision weapons launched from sea and air platforms, and strike drones against the Armed Forces of Ukraine and infrastructure targets in Ukraine.

The country’s Defense Ministry also urges Ukraine to "follow this example."

"In case of violations by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the special military operation zone, as well as attempts to strike settlements and facilities on Russian territory, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation will deliver an adequate response," the statement says.

In addition, Russia threatens a "massive missile strike on the center of Kyiv" if Ukraine "tries to disrupt the May 9 celebrations" in Moscow.

Ceasefire and attacks on Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a ceasefire from 00:00 on the night of May 5 to May 6, but Russia violated it and continued attacking Ukrainian cities. The occupying forces carried out drone and missile strikes — Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, and Kryvyi Rih came under fire.

During the day, two enemy drones hit a kindergarten building in central Sumy, causing a fire. Rescuers found the bodies of two female employees under the rubble, and seven more people were injured.

Last night, Russian forces again attacked Ukraine with more than a hundred strike drones launched from seven directions. Hits by eight kamikaze drones were recorded at six locations, along with falling debris.

Following these attacks, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine will respond in a mirror manner to Russia’s actions.
