Russian forces attacked several Ukrainian cities on the morning of May 6, breaking the ceasefire proposed and announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

RBC-Ukraine reports what is known so far.

When Russia violated the ceasefire, and how the attacks unfolded

The ceasefire regime began at 00:00 on the night of May 5–6. However, just a few minutes later, explosions were heard in Dnipro. According to the Ukrainian Air Force and monitoring channels, drones were heading toward the city, having been launched even before the ceasefire began.

After that, enemy UAVs were recorded in the Kharkiv region, but it was unclear whether these were new drones or ones launched earlier. For some time, however, monitoring channels reported that, at least, there were no new launches. It is known that explosions were heard in Izium, Kharkiv region, around 01:00.

Later, it seemed to become quieter (except for the detection of drones in the Kharkiv region), but air raid alerts in frontline regions were announced regularly.

Starting from 04:00, the military recorded launches of guided aerial bombs toward Sumy, Kharkiv, and Donetsk regions, and from 05:00, the enemy repeatedly launched guided bombs at Zaporizhzhia region.

Later, after 06:00, the enemy began attacking Kharkiv with drones. UAVs were also recorded near Kryvyi Rih (Dnipropetrovsk region) and from the Black Sea area heading toward the Odesa region.

Which cities were attacked by Russia, and what is known about the consequences

Kharkiv

Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported that hits were recorded in at least two districts of the city — Novobavarskyi and Shevchenkivskyi.

In particular, in the first district, Russians hit a private house, causing a fire. In total, 7 private houses were damaged.

At the same time, the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Syniehubov, reported that there are currently two injured in the city.

Zaporizhzhia

According to the head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, Ivan Fedorov, the region faced repeated threats of drone and guided aerial bomb use overnight, and explosions were heard. At around 06:00, he clarified the consequences.

"The enemy attacked an industrial infrastructure facility. There were no casualties," the statement said.

Kryvyi Rih

In the morning, the enemy attacked the city with Shahed drones. The infrastructure was damaged.

In the Nikopol district, the enemy attacked Nikopol, Marhanets, Pokrovske, Chervonohryhorivka, and Tomakivka communities with drones and artillery. An administrative building, a hotel, apartment buildings, private houses, and vehicles were damaged.

What Russian forces used to attack

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, from 6:00 p.m. yesterday and overnight, the enemy attacked Ukraine, launching two Iskander-M ballistic missiles, a Kh-31 guided missile, and 108 UAVs (types Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, and Parodiya).

Air defense shot down and suppressed 89 enemy drones in the northern and eastern regions using electronic warfare.

Hits of two ballistic missiles, one air-launched missile, and 9 UAVs were recorded at 8 locations. At one more location, debris from a downed target was recorded.

Ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia

Last week, it became known that the Kremlin leader, Vladimir Putin, held a phone call with US President Donald Trump. During the conversation, he told the American leader that he was ready to declare a ceasefire with Ukraine on May 8 and 9.

At the beginning of this week, the Ministry of Defense officially confirmed that Putin had ordered a ceasefire for those dates.

However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed not to wait and to start the ceasefire regime on the night of May 5–6. Ukraine's Foreign Ministry emphasized that Kyiv is genuinely ready to end the war and that May 6 would show whether Russia wants the same.
