Russia has reached the point where even its main military parade now depends on Ukraine. This is a clear signal that the full-scale war must come to an end, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

"Ukraine is ready to work for peace. Ukraine seeks to end this war with dignity. Russia has fought to the point where even its main parade now depends on us. This is a clear signal: Enough is enough," Zelenskyy said.

The President stressed that Russia had received a ceasefire proposal from Ukraine.

"Russia has received from us a clear proposal on silence of the guns and diplomacy, and knows how to contact Ukraine or our partners in order to coordinate the details. If the one person in Moscow who cannot live without war cares only about one parade and nothing else, that’s a different story," he said.

Zelenskyy said Russia responded to Ukraine’s ceasefire proposal with new attacks. According to him, reports of Russian attacks continued throughout the day across different Ukrainian regions.

"Throughout the entire day, almost every hour, reports of strikes have been coming in from different regions of Ukraine. Ukraine will act in kind. Depending on the situation overnight and tomorrow, we will also determine our fully justified responses," Zelenskyy emphasized.

Ceasefire proposal

Ukraine proposed a ceasefire with Russia beginning on May 6, an initiative put forward by Zelenskyy.

The move came in response to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s order to introduce a temporary ceasefire on May 8–9 to protect Moscow’s Victory Day military parade from potential attacks.

However, Russia rejected the proposal to begin a ceasefire overnight on May 6. According to Zelenskyy, Russian forces continued assaults on key frontline areas and carried out ongoing airstrikes.
