Russia has disrupted the ceasefire that began on the night of May 6. Ukraine will determine its further actions based on the results of the evening reports from the military and intelligence, according to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Despite the declared ceasefire, assault operations continue in all key sections of the front, and since the beginning of this day alone, the Russian army has already carried out nearly 30 assault actions.
In just tonight and this morning, more than 20 air strikes using over 70 aerial bombs have been recorded.
During the night, the Russian army also carried out drone strikes of various types. The Defense Forces of Ukraine neutralized nearly 90 attack drones alone. There were also missile strikes.
In total, as of 10:00 am, the Russian army has committed 1,820 violations of the ceasefire regime — shelling, attempted assaults, air strikes, and the use of drones.
“Ukraine clearly stated that it would act in kind, taking into account Russia’s persistent appeals through the media and social networks asking for a ceasefire during the Moscow parade. It is obvious to any reasonable person that a full-scale war and the daily murdering of people are a bad time for public 'celebrations',” Zelenskyy noted.
He emphasized that Russia must end its war. Even with the internet turned off and communications blocked for most Russians, it is absolutely clear that their leadership “can come out of the bunker and choose peace.”
The president added that Ukraine’s diplomatic proposals are with the Russian side, and the only thing needed is Russia’s readiness to move toward real peace.
“As of today, we can confirm that the Russian side has disrupted the ceasefire regime. Based on the evening reports from our military and intelligence, we will decide on our further actions,” Zelenskyy said.
Ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia
Last week, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced an order from Russian president Vladimir Putin for a ceasefire with Ukraine on May 8–9 in honor of Victory Day.
Moscow took this step without coordination with Kyiv. Separately, Russia threatened that if the celebrations are disrupted by attacks, a “massive missile strike” would be launched at the center of the Ukrainian capital.
In response to this initiative, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine declares a ceasefire with Russia starting from midnight on May 6. According to him, Ukrainian forces would act symmetrically in case of Russian provocations.
However, during the night and morning of May 6, Russians attacked several cities in Ukraine, thereby violating the ceasefire. Hostilities at the front also did not stop.
