Chairman of the Ukrainian parliament Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk reacted to Russia’s nighttime attacks after the announcement of a ceasefire, and named the only real guarantee of ending the fire.

Negotiations as a cover

According to Stefanchuk, the violation of the ceasefire is not an accident or a mistake.

“The violation of the ceasefire proposed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is a deliberate, cynical tactic of a terrorist state. For them, any agreements are worth less than the paper they are written on and last shorter than the time spent discussing them,” he wrote.

Stefanchuk directly named the real purpose of Russia’s talks about a ceasefire. The chairman of the Verkhovna Rada also stressed that there can be no illusions about the aggressor’s intentions. The only guarantee of a ceasefire is depriving Russia of the physical ability to wage war.

“Russia uses talks about a ceasefire for only one thing — to reload weapons and strike treacherously,” he noted.

The ceasefire began at midnight between May 5 and 6. Just a few minutes after it started, explosions were heard in Dnipro — drones launched before the start of the ceasefire were heading there. Later, from 4 a.m., Russia carried out strikes with guided aerial bombs on the Sumy, Kharkiv, and Donetsk regions.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said that overnight, Russia attacked Ukraine with 108 drones and three missiles.

According to him, Moscow’s calls for a ceasefire on May 9 have nothing to do with real diplomacy, and the head of the Kremlin is concerned only with parades, not human lives.
