Ukraine will act in kind in a possible ceasefire with Russia. Moscow can contact Kyiv regarding this matter if it wants, a government source told RBC-Ukraine.

The source commented on whether Ukraine would agree to a ceasefire with Russia on May 9.

“If they’re worried over there in Moscow, they know how to get in touch,” he emphasized.

The source reiterated Ukraine’s position. It is quite simple: Ukrainian defenders will respond in kind. If the Russians launch attacks, then the fighters of the Ukrainian Defense Forces will do the same. If the Russians do not attack, then Ukraine will act accordingly.

Ukraine-Russia ceasefire

Ukraine initiated a ceasefire with Russia starting May 6. The idea was proposed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

This was the Ukrainian leader’s response to Russian president Vladimir Putin’s order to establish a ceasefire with Ukraine on May 8–9 to protect his military parade in honor of Victory Day from possible attacks.

Unfortunately, Russia did not agree to begin a ceasefire with Ukraine on the night of May 6.

The enemy continued its assault operations in key sectors of the front. The airstrikes also did not cease.

The president noted that Ukraine will determine its next steps based on the results of evening intelligence and military briefings.
