According to preliminary data, as a result of the Russian nighttime massive strike on Kyiv, the diplomatic facility was hit by fragments of an Iskander-type missile.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasizes that the Russian strike was deliberately aimed at causing maximum damage to civilian objects and people.

"This was a deliberately calculated attack aimed at causing maximum harm to people and civilian infrastructure. In Kyiv alone, dozens of apartment buildings have been damaged. The Azerbaijani Embassy was hit by debris from an Iskander missile," the head of state says.

Area around

The Heydar Aliyev Square, located next to the embassy, was hit during the Russian attack. High-rise buildings and a private clinic were also damaged in the vicinity.

The footage shows that the debris damaged one part of the square where the waterfall is located. In addition, the windows of the surrounding buildings were broken.

The square was opened on April 25, 2013, in honor of the 90th anniversary of the birth of the leader of Azerbaijan. The park is known for its unusual architectural style, cascading waterfall, and mosaic, which is a replica of the full-size Sheikh Safi carpet. The square is built in several tiers and is considered one of the most original in the capital.

Not the first damage

This is not the first time that the Azerbaijani Embassy has been damaged during a Russian strike. According to Aihan Hajizade, spokesperson for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, the rocket fell 100 meters from the diplomatic mission, causing a fire and a powerful explosion.

Windows in the building were broken and cracks appeared on the roof of the consular section, but no staff were injured. The Embassy continued to operate.

Russia attacks Azerbaijani facilities in Ukraine

On the night of August 8, Russian troops attacked the SOCAR oil depot in the Odesa region with strike drones. Russian strike caused a fire, damaged a diesel pipeline, and reportedly caused casualties.

Earlier, the Russians struck a gas transportation facility in Orlivka near the border with Romania, through which gas from the US and Azerbaijan was supplied to Ukraine, and Azerbaijani gas was transported to Europe.

After these attacks, Baku reacted sharply and threatened to lift the ban on arms supplies to Ukraine if Russia continued to destroy Ukrainian gas infrastructure or facilities belonging to Azerbaijani companies.

In addition, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, during which the parties condemned Russia's targeted strike on the SOCAR oil depot.

In addition, a new conflict broke out between Russia and Azerbaijan, provoked by mass arrests of members of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Yekaterinburg.

Azerbaijan responded to Moscow's actions by arresting FSB agents and cracking down on pro-Russian media outlets. Azerbaijan also canceled all Russian cultural events.

This was preceded by the tragedy involving an Azerbaijan Airlines plane that was shot down by Russian air defense forces.
