A massive overnight strike on Kyiv and across Ukraine shows that Russian leader Vladimir Putin does not take peace efforts seriously and can "act with impunity," said UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Starmer said he was shocked by Russia's latest attack on Kyiv and the rest of the country. The strikes killed civilians and damaged infrastructure. For the first time, a Ukrainian government building was hit.

"These cowardly strikes show that Putin believes he can act with impunity. He is not serious about peace. Now, more than ever, we must stand firm in our support for Ukraine and its sovereignty," he said.

Massive Russian strike on Ukraine

In the early hours of September 7, Russia launched a large-scale attack on Ukrainian cities. The military fired a record 810 drones and 13 missiles. Kyiv, Kremenchuk, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, and Kryvyi Rih all came under fire.

In Kyiv, residential buildings and the Cabinet of Ministers were damaged. A fire spread across 1,000 square meters. In the Sviatoshynskyi district, a nine-story apartment building was hit. A woman and a young child were killed. More than 20 people were wounded.

Across Ukraine, four people were killed and 44 were injured in the attack. For more details on the aftermath, read RBC-Ukraine's report.
