President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the main task of the Ukrainian delegation at today's talks in the US is to present the full and accurate picture of what is happening and what Russian strikes are causing.

Ukraine's leader informed that the Ukrainian delegation, consisting of National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov, Presidential Office head Kyrylo Budanov, and Member of Parliament David Arahamiya, is already in the United States.

"Toward the evening, Kyiv time, I expect the first reports regarding their meetings," he said.

In addition, the President spoke about the Ukrainian delegation's task in these talks and noted that Russian strikes are undermining the prospects for dialogue.

"The main task for the Ukrainian delegation is to present the full and accurate picture of what is happening and what Russian strikes are causing. Among the consequences of this terror is the discrediting of the diplomatic process: people lose faith in diplomacy, and Russian attacks constantly undermine even the limited opportunities for dialogue that existed before. The American side must understand this," Zelenskyy stressed.

The President also emphasized that progress is needed on the documents under preparation. He noted that Ukraine has never been, and will never be, a roadblock to peace, and that it is now up to the partners to determine whether diplomacy moves forward.

On January 17, Rustem Umerov said the talks would continue work toward achieving peace, as well as focus on security guarantees and coordination of next steps.

Ukraine–US talks

Ukraine has been holding consultations with the United States and European partners for several months regarding the US peace plan and security guarantees.

At the same time, despite statements about full security guarantees for Ukraine, the key and most difficult issue remains the territory. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump says the sides are close to a compromise, and according to Zelenskyy, the peace plan is 90% agreed and security guarantees – 100%.

In early January, a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing took place in Paris, during which Ukraine, France, and the UK signed a declaration of intent on deploying a Western contingent in Ukraine after the war.

At the same time, the media reported that Vladimir Putin's special envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, was also in the French capital. Reports claimed that Trump advisers Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met with him to discuss the US peace plan for Ukraine and a possible visit to Moscow to meet with the Kremlin leader. A response to the peace plan is expected from Moscow by the end of January.

According to media sources, Ukraine's G7 allies plan to meet with Trump in Davos next week to secure his support for security guarantees for Ukraine.
