Advisor to the Head of the Office of the President, Oleksandr Bevz, stated that future security guarantees for Ukraine will be signed directly by Ukraine, the US, and European partners. They will consist of several components, Bevz made this statement during a briefing.
According to him, this refers to a multilateral framework agreement. It will define how all guarantors interact with each other.
"It will be signed by Ukraine, the United States, European partners, and those non-European countries that wish to provide such guarantees. For example, Canada, which is present today. This framework essentially ties together how the guarantors will coordinate with one another," Bevz explained.
Specifically, the main elements of security are as follows:
-
The Armed Forces of Ukraine — the first and key line of defense;
-
Multinational forces led by Europe, which can be deployed in Ukraine and engaged in security on land, in the air, and at sea;
-
The American "backstop" — US support for these forces.
Currently, the military is coordinating the details of the so-called military component — both within the framework of the bilateral agreement with the US and with European guarantees.
Negotiations in Kyiv
Today, Saturday, January 3, Ukraine began joint work with European partners in Kyiv on security guarantees and approaches to a peace plan.
In particular, national security advisers from 15 European and NATO countries arrived in the Ukrainian capital.
Additionally, following the negotiations, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Andrii Hnatov said that Ukraine and the US have agreed on an important military document regarding future support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It consists of four sections and four annexes.
