Ukraine's advance in Donetsk region: Liberated area exceeds size of Zhytomyr

The military operation Vivaldi to liberate the Donetsk region is already yielding its first results. In particular, Ukrainian soldiers eliminated a concealed enemy position and established a foothold for a further offensive, according to a statement by the Third Army Corps on Telegram.
Details of the counteroffensive in the Donetsk region
The following areas have been cleared of Russian forces:
- Novoselivka,
- Oleksandrivka,
- Yarova,
- The outskirts of Korovii Yar.
"Overall, we have liberated 75 square kilometers of territory. We also de-occupied Serednie. That's another 10 square kilometers. Together, this is more than the area of Zhytomyr and almost as much as Chernihiv," the military said.
Clearing out infiltrators
In the area of responsibility of the Third Army Corps, the enemy's main tactic was the use of "flag-bearers," according to the military.
"Small groups of Russian troops that hid in the gray zone, changed into civilian clothes, directed strikes at our positions and were supposed to ensure the enemy's slow advance," the statement said.
To counter them, a joint tactical-level headquarters was established.
Enemy logistics cut off
The corps also cut off the logistics of the Russian army.
"So effectively that the enemy was forced to move critical supply links farther and farther into the rear, trying to escape our strikes," the military said.
Losses of the Russian army
Russia lost during the first phase of Operation Vivaldi:
- More than 1,500 soldiers,
- More than 12,000 drones,
- Armored vehicles,
- Artillery,
- Hundreds of vehicles and pieces of special equipment.
"If all this scrap were gathered in one place, it would form a hill as high as a five-story building — a man-made elevation that the enemy built for itself," the Third Corps said.
At the same time, the corps continues to hold the line in its area of responsibility. The Kharkiv-Sloviansk highway remains under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that the Third Army Corps had launched the Vivaldi offensive operation in the northern Donetsk region. Several settlements have reportedly been cleared.
It was also reported that on September 13, Brigadier General Denys "Redis" Prokopenko took command of the Azov troop grouping, which will operate in the Donetsk region.
