Ukraine has not received a response from Russia regarding the real purpose of its proposed May 9 ceasefire, an informed government source told RBC-Ukraine.
The source commented on Ukraine’s possible actions on May 9 in light of Moscow’s initiative to introduce a ceasefire.
"We have not received any response from the Russians to our signals about what they actually want: a pause for the parade or something more," the source stressed.
May 9 ceasefire
Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump held a phone call, during which they discussed, among other things, Russia’s war against Ukraine.
According to Putin's aide Yury Ushakov, Putin told Trump he was ready to declare a ceasefire with Ukraine during the Victory Day celebrations.
After that, the US leader said it was he who had proposed a short truce to the Kremlin chief.
Commenting on this, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Kyiv plans to clarify all the details during contacts with Trump’s team.
Zelenskyy also noted that the Kremlin leader wants to use the ceasefire solely to protect his May 9 military parade. Ukraine does not want a ceasefire to become a tactical deception.
