President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy instructed his representatives to contact Donald Trump’s team to clarify the details of Russia’s proposal for a ceasefire.
The president emphasized that Ukraine wants to understand what is really being proposed.
“We will clarify what exactly this is about – a few hours of security for a parade in Moscow, or something more,” Zelenskyy said.
Ukraine’s position
Kyiv is ready for negotiations, but only in a format that will produce a real result.
“Our proposal is a long-term ceasefire, reliable and guaranteed security for people, and a lasting peace. Ukraine is ready to work toward this in any dignified and effective format,” the president stressed.
Meanwhile, the Center for Countering Disinformation explained why the head of the Kremlin started talking about a ceasefire at all. According to the head of the agency, Andriy Kovalenko, Russian leader Vladimir Putin is proposing a ceasefire on May 9 because he is worried about his parade and cannot guarantee security even in Moscow.
Earlier, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said that Putin had informed Trump of his readiness to declare a temporary ceasefire during the celebration of Victory Day. According to Ushakov, the American president actively supported the idea.
