Russian president Vladimir Putin has not yet decided on which dates the announced ceasefire for May 9 will be in effect. No decision has been made yet, says Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov, according to TASS.
“Putin will determine on which dates the ceasefire for Victory Day will be in effect; the decision has not yet been made,” Peskov said.
He added that Moscow has not yet heard Ukraine’s reaction to the expressed readiness to declare a ceasefire.
May 9 ceasefire
Earlier, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said that Putin informed Trump of his readiness to announce a temporary ceasefire during the celebrations of Victory Day. According to Ushakov, the US president actively supported this idea.
The Center for Countering Disinformation explained why Russia is talking about a ceasefire. According to the head of the agency, Andriy Kovalenko, Putin is proposing a ceasefire on May 9 because he is worried about his parade and cannot guarantee security even in Moscow.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy instructed his representatives to contact US President Donald Trump’s team to clarify the details of the Russian proposal for a ceasefire.
“Our proposal is a long-term ceasefire, reliable and guaranteed security for people, and a lasting peace. Ukraine is ready to work toward this in any dignified and effective format,” Zelenskyy emphasized.
