Russia's losses in Ukraine as of September 4: +1,440 troops and 77 artillery systems

Russia continues to suffer heavy losses on the battlefield as Ukraine's Defense Forces inflict casualties and destroy military equipment every day. The latest figures show the number of Russian troops and various types of weapons and equipment lost over the past 24 hours.
The total Russian combat losses from February 24, 2022, to September 4, 2026, are estimated to be:

- Tanks ‒ 12,325 (+1)
- Armored fighting vehicles ‒ 25,272 (+8)
- Special equipment ‒ 4,636 (+8)
- Vehicles and fuel tanks ‒ 143,642 (+492)
- Unmanned ground vehicles ‒ 2,489 (+13)
- Artillery systems ‒ 49,162 (+77)
- MLRS ‒ 2,088 (+3)
- Air defense assets ‒ 1,604 (+4)

Frontline situation
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is increasingly claiming territorial gains, but most of them are simply fabrications, according to ISW. In August, the Russians took control of only 73.14 square kilometers of territory in the Donetsk region.
Meanwhile, Russia has significantly increased its use of jet-powered drones in attacks on Ukraine. Moscow is deploying them in large numbers in an attempt to exhaust and overwhelm Ukraine's air defenses.
