White House explains Trump's sharp call to end Ukraine war along current front lines

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, in an interview with Fox News, said Ukraine and Russia need to accept the realities on the ground as the war drags on, many people have died, and US patience is wearing thin.
The White House Press Secretary said that after his trip to the Middle East, President Donald Trump spoke for three hours with President Vladimir Putin. The following day, he spent the same amount of time speaking with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Leavitt explained the US's sharp call to stop the war along the current front lines.
"In both of these conversations, with both Putin and Zelenskyy, they were cordial but very frank. And the President of the United States has said to both sides of this war that this has been going on for far too long. Far too many innocent people have been killed. And the United States of America is growing very weary and tired of this war," she said.
She added that Trump's patience regarding Russia's war against Ukraine is running out, and the countries must work toward peace.
"Both sides need to recognize the reality on the ground right now and come to a peace agreement because President Trump's patience and the patience of the American people are growing very thin with this war. And so he was very frank and direct, but President Trump will never give up," Leavitt emphasized.
Leavitt also highlighted the successful peace agreement between Israel and Hamas over Gaza. She added that Trump will continue working toward peace between Russia and Ukraine.
"It's a new dawn in the Middle East, and we hope that can be true as well with Russia and Ukraine," she concluded.
Trump calls to stop along the front line
Yesterday, after meeting with Zelenskyy, Trump posted that it is crucial to halt the killings and reach a deal to end the war in Ukraine. He stressed that both sides "should stop where they are."
President Zelenskyy later gave a brief statement to journalists, agreeing with Trump's position.
A few hours later, Trump provided a short comment to the media, again urging Ukraine and Russia to stop along the current front line.
After meeting Trump, Zelenskyy also held a phone call with European leaders. According to Axios, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer suggested working with the US on a peace deal for Ukraine, modeled on Trump's Gaza plan.
