US President Donald Trump said the war in Ukraine should be halted immediately, wherever the current front line lies. He made the statement while speaking to the press, according to Rapid Response 47.

US President Donald Trump described his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as "good," reiterating his call for an immediate end to the war in Ukraine.

"The war must be stopped immediately. Stop along the front line, wherever it is; otherwise, it will become too complicated, and you will never be able to resolve it," Trump said. "Stop at the battle line, and both sides should go home, go to their families, stop the killing, and that should be it. Stop right now at the battle line. I told that to President Zelensky. I told it to President Putin," he added.

Zelenskyy's visit to Washington

On Friday, October 17, Trump met with Zelenskyy at the White House. Following the talks, Trump said he and Ukraine would work together to persuade Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war. He also expressed hope that the conflict could be resolved without sending Tomahawk long-range missiles to Kyiv.

After the meeting, Trump reiterated on Truth Social the need to end the war by having both sides declare victory.

Trump-Putin phone call

On Thursday, October 16, Trump held a two-hour phone conversation with Putin, after which he announced plans for a bilateral summit with the Russian leader to be held within the next two weeks in Budapest.

Trump reportedly chose Hungary out of "respect for Prime Minister Viktor Orbán" and the country’s "stability." Zelenskyy is expected to join the talks remotely as a mediator.

European leaders are working to influence Trump’s stance ahead of the summit, fearing that his position could undermine Western unity in supporting Ukraine. German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul stressed the critical importance of Ukraine’s participation in the Budapest meeting.
