The United States needs long-range Tomahawk missiles, so Washington hopes the war between Russia and Ukraine can be ended without supplying such weapons, said US President Donald Trump during his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Commenting on the possible delivery of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, Trump noted that the US needs these weapons, as well as much of the other equipment currently being supplied to Kyiv.

He added that this is one of the reasons why the US wants to bring an end to Russia’s war against Ukraine.

"Hopefully, we will be able to get the war over without thinking about Tomahawks. We are fairly close to that," he added.

Tomahawk missiles for Ukraine

Ukraine has been asking the United States to begin supplying long-range Tomahawk missiles for quite some time. The administration of Joe Biden had refused to provide such weapons to Ukrainian forces.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump stated several weeks ago that the decision to supply Ukraine with these missiles had been effectively adopted.

He later added that before any deliveries, he still needed to speak with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. That conversation took place yesterday, October 16.

According to CNN sources, Trump wants to use the potential transfer of Tomahawk missiles as a leverage tool. During the call, he did not rule out the possibility of supplying them to Ukraine.
