Ukraine must participate in the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Budapest, stated German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, DW reports.

Wadephul noted that he takes the prospect of talks between Trump and Putin in Budapest very seriously.

However, he believes that Ukraine should be involved in any decisions or agreements regarding the war.

"There must be no decision on Ukraine without Ukraine," the German Foreign Minister said.

Trump and Putin meeting

Yesterday, October 16, US President Donald Trump held a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The call took place ahead of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's visit to Washington.

Trump called the conversation productive and announced a new meeting with Putin in Budapest. The exact date of the summit is currently unknown.

Putin's administration also confirmed the possibility of holding a summit with the US President in Budapest.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, in turn, called the upcoming Trump-Putin meeting "great news for the peace-loving people of the world." According to him, Hungary is ready for the summit.

Orbán has already announced the start of preparations for the Trump-Putin summit, while Slovakia has offered Hungary assistance in organizing the meeting.

At the same time, the US President stated that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will be in contact during his meeting with Putin in Budapest.
