US President Donald Trump believes that, together with Ukraine, he can persuade Russian leader Vladimir Putin to end the war. He said that during the meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Trump greeted Zelenskyy at the entrance to the White House. One of the reporters asked the US president whether he believed it was possible to convince Putin to make peace.

"We can," Trump replied, patting Zelenskyy on the shoulder.

Trump–Zelenskyy meeting

On October 17, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump are holding a meeting at the White House.

Earlier, the head of Ukraine's Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, said one of the main topics on the agenda would be providing Ukraine with new American weapons — specifically, long-range Tomahawk missiles, which Trump recently said Zelenskyy wants to get.

It's worth noting that the Trump–Zelenskyy meeting is taking place just a day after the US president’s phone call with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin.

Following those talks, Trump said that progress had been made. He also mentioned plans to meet with Putin again. Their next meeting is expected to take place in Budapest.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has already said he is ready to help Hungary organize the US–Russia leaders' summit.
