Painful compromise: Why Israel and Hamas came to terms and what lies ahead

On Thursday, January 16, Israel and Hamas signed an agreement on a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages. On Friday and Saturday, the agreement was approved by the Israeli Security Cabinet and the government itself.

Starting on Sunday, January 19, the agreement between Israel and Hamas entered into force.

On Sunday, Hamas released, first of all, three civilian women – Romi Gonen, Emily Damari, and Doron Steinbrecher.

The group then handed them over to the Red Cross, which took them to the Israel Defense Forces. Soon after, the released prisoners met with their families.

Ballistic strike on Kyiv: Consequences

On the morning of January 18, Russian troops attacked Kyiv with two Iskander-M missiles. Despite the fact that the missiles flying at Kyiv were shot down, heavy damage was recorded.

In particular, the entrance and exit of the Lukianivska metro station were damaged. Three people were injured and three more were killed. Although there was information about one more victim, it was not confirmed.

TikTok stops working for US users

On the evening of January 18, access to TikTok was restricted for US users. It was removed from the Apple and Google app stores.

US President-elect Donald Trump, who will be inaugurated on January 20, suggested that the ban on TikTok in the US could be postponed for 90 days.

Later, Trump said that he would seek a joint venture in which the new American owners would buy 50% of the company and “keep it in good hands and let it stay.”

Ukraine's strikes on Russian oil depots shift frontline tactics: Center for Countering Disinformation

Ukraine's strikes on Russian oil depots are already yielding results, as Russia now relies more on infantry in its frontline offensives, states Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD).

Ukrainian forces regularly target oil depots and other key Russian facilities that supply the occupying forces on the frontline in Ukraine.

For example, on January 18, drones from the Ukrainian Military Intelligence attacked an oil depot in the Tula region of Russia. At least ten "strikes" were reported.

Trump announces his own cryptocurrency

The newly elected US President Donald Trump has announced his own cryptocurrency - $TRUMP. It has already caused a stir among crypto enthusiasts, DexScreener reports.

According to the media outlet, the coin cost a little more than $68 and was valued at more than $68 billion, making it the 19th largest cryptocurrency.
