US President Donald Trump said that the United States is not yet ready to withdraw from the operation in Iran, but will do so in the near future, The Guardian reports.
When asked whether he has a "day after" plan for Iran, Trump replied that if the US ends the military operation now, it will take Iran 10 years to recover.
"But we’re not ready to leave yet. But we will be leaving in the near future, we’ll be leaving in pretty much the very near future," the President said.
He also stressed that the United States has received "great support" from Middle Eastern countries but "essentially no support" from NATO.
Recently, Donald Trump said the United States had effectively already won the war against Iran, and the only question is when exactly the fighting will end.
At the same time, Israel plans to continue its military campaign against Iran for at least three more weeks. According to Israeli officials, thousands of targets remain.
Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal, citing sources, reported that some of Trump’s advisers have begun urging him to end the war. This comes amid rising oil prices and concerns that a prolonged conflict could have negative political consequences.
Today, March 17, US National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent resigned over his disagreement with the US operation in Iran. He said he could not support sending Americans into a war that does not "justify the cost of American lives."
