US President Donald Trump said he is not ready to declare victory in the war against Iran, although he believes Tehran has suffered a defeat, The Hill reports.

"No, I’m not going to do that. There’s no reason to," Trump said during a conversation with reporters aboard Air Force One.

At the same time, the US President stressed that, in his view, Iran has suffered a defeat.

"I just say they’re decimated. I think that we’ve done damage to them," he said.

Trump said Iran may need years to recover from the strikes.

"But I’m still not declaring it (victory - ed.)," he added.

When asked by reporters whether Washington is considering the possibility of deploying ground troops to Iran, Trump did not give a clear answer.

Earlier, Donald Trump had said that the United States had effectively already won the war against Iran, and that the only question was when exactly the hostilities would end.

At the same time, Israel plans to continue its military campaign against Iran for at least three more weeks. According to Israeli officials, "thousands" of targets remain.

Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources, that some of Trump’s advisers have begun urging him to bring the war to an end.
