Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov spoke about progress in negotiations on ending the war in Ukraine, Russian media reports.
According to him, peace talks on Ukraine are a "very complex", multi-directional process. At the same time, Peskov emphasized that convergence has occurred on some issues.
"On some issues, we have moved closer, because discussions and talks have taken place. On some issues, it is easier to find common ground. There are issues where it is more difficult to find common ground. There, convergence cannot yet be stated. This is a very complex process," the president's spokesperson said.
Peace talks on Ukraine
A week ago, on January 23 and 24, trilateral talks between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia took place in Abu Dhabi. The United States described the meeting as positive, while Kyiv called it substantive.
According to RBC-Ukraine, the greatest progress was made in the military track. In particular, possible disengagement of forces, mechanisms for monitoring a ceasefire, and the creation of a coordination center were discussed. At the same time, the issue of territories was not resolved.
The continuation of the talks on February 1 was also announced. According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the meeting could be postponed due to the situation around Iran, as the United States may strike the ayatollah regime.
Later, the Ukrainian leader confirmed that the meeting had been postponed and would take place next week. In particular, it is scheduled for February 4 and 5 in Abu Dhabi.
In one interview, Zelenskyy said that without a meeting with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, it is impossible to resolve the territorial issue.
In addition, on February 2, Peskov stated that a meeting between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin is possible only in Moscow.
