A meeting between Ukrainian and American delegations on peace in Ukraine took place in the United States. The negotiations have now been concluded, according to Suspilne.
Sources in the delegation told the agency that the meeting between the Ukrainian and American delegations in Miami had ended. On the Ukrainian side, National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov and Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Andrii Hnatov took part in the negotiations.
Negotiations on US peace plan
In November, the US presented a new peace plan to end Russia's war against Ukraine, which was developed by Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff and Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev.
The initial version of the document contained 28 points, but frankly, they were very beneficial to Russia. In this regard, on October 23 and 30, the US and Ukrainian delegations held consultations to finalize the document and make it more beneficial for Kyiv. The first meeting was in Geneva (Switzerland), the second in Miami.
On Tuesday, December 2, Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, arrived in Moscow to meet with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin and discuss the updated document.
After five hours of negotiations, Putin's aide Yuri Ushakov spoke to the media. He said that no compromise had been reached yet, but that the parties were ready to continue negotiations.
His words were interpreted as a rejection of the American proposal. However, the next day, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov claimed that this was not the case.
A few days later, Putin himself spoke on the subject. He said that he had rejected some of the peace proposals and announced that the document now contained 27 points and was divided into four packages. However, before the negotiations, there was information in Russia that the document had been reduced to 19-20 points after consultations with Ukraine.
The New York Times clarified that one of the packages mentioned above concerns Ukrainian sovereignty. In particular, restrictions on the size of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the range of missiles. The other packages concern territorial concessions, economic cooperation between the US and Russia after the war, and broader issues of European security.
After the meeting in the Kremlin, it was announced that the US and Ukrainian delegations would now hold a new, third meeting. We wrote about its conclusion above.
Previously, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the delegation's task was to obtain full information about what was said in the Kremlin.
In addition, Presidential Administration adviser Oleksandr Bevz commented on the negotiations. He said that the Ukrainian delegation would discuss a modified version of the peace plan prepared in Geneva. Bevz also added that the Ukrainian President would make further decisions.
