The task of the Ukrainian negotiators in the US is to obtain full information on the results of the American delegation’s visit to Russia, according to a statement by Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
He said that today, December 4, Ukrainian representatives will continue talks in the US with the team of American leader Donald Trump.
"Our task now is to obtain full information about what was discussed in Russia, what other pretexts Putin has found to prolong the war and to put pressure on Ukraine, on us, on our independence. Ukraine is ready for any scenario," the Ukrainian president emphasized.
Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine will work "as constructively as possible" with all partners to achieve a "worthy peace."
"Only a worthy peace means real security; we fully understand that support from our partners is needed now and will continue to be needed for this," he added.
US peace plan
On December 2, Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, together with the US president’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, discussed an updated peace plan in Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
After the meeting, Putin’s aide Yuri Ushakov said that no compromise has been reached yet, but work is ongoing.
Later, Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov stated that the Kremlin had not rejected the US proposals.
According to media reports, Witkoff and Kushner briefed Trump on a "productive" meeting in Moscow. The details were not disclosed, but Trump himself told journalists that, according to his representatives, Putin "wants to end the war."
On Thursday, December 4, Witkoff and Kushner are scheduled to hold another round of talks with the head of the Ukrainian delegation, Rustem Umerov.
