US military forces shot down UAVs and missile launched by Yemeni Houthis
American military successfully detected and destroyed four drones and one surface-to-air missile launched by Yemeni Houthi rebels, according to the US Central Command's page on Twitter (X).
It is noted that the attack posed an immediate threat to merchant vessels and US Navy ships in the region.
Additionally, the Command stated that on the night of March 13, Yemeni Houthis launched an anti-ship ballistic missile towards the Gulf of Aden. It did not hit any vessel, and there were no reports of injuries to personnel or damage to ships and infrastructure.
Attacks by Yemeni Houthis in the Red Sea
Since November 2023, Yemeni Houthis have been regularly launching drone, cruise missile, and ballistic missile attacks on commercial vessels in the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait and the Red Sea. The initial attacks began immediately after the start of the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
In response to numerous attacks, on January 12, the United States and Britain conducted missile strikes for the first time on Houthi military targets in Yemen.
On January 17, the United States designated the Houthis as a global terrorist organization.
Since then, the Western coalition has been regularly targeting Houthi military installations in Yemen, but the terrorists continue to attack ships in the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait and the Red Sea.
In particular, on March 12, the Italian destroyer Duilio destroyed two Houthi drones in the Red Sea in accordance with the principle of self-defense.
On the same day, the Houthis launched rockets at the container ship Pinocchio in the Red Sea. It was flying under the flag of Liberia and belonged to the Singapore-registered company OM-MAR 5 INC.
