Before leaving for Paris, where a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing countries will take place, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk says that the signing of documents that will finally cement the joint US-European position on Ukraine could take place in the coming days, possibly in Washington.

According to the head of the Polish government, the diplomatic efforts of Europe, the US, and Ukraine offer a little more than a glimmer of hope for achieving peace, but key decisions are still ahead.

In Paris, the parties will discuss a draft declaration that is intended to confirm the political will for joint action, but will not entail any immediate financial or logistical commitments.

Tusk notes that the meeting participants will also consider a 20-point peace plan, which has remained unpublished until now. In addition, documents on European and US cooperation in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine will be discussed.

At the same time, the Polish Prime Minister stresses that no final decisions should be expected in Paris. According to him, the final approval and signing of key documents may take place in the coming days at another venue.

Tusk stresses that it is possible that the signing of documents that will finally confirm the joint American-European position will take place in the coming days, possibly in Washington. This issue remains open.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously announced his readiness to hold multilateral talks in January with the participation of Ukraine, the US, and European countries. According to him, a package of documents has already been prepared that could be ready for signing in January, provided there is political will on the part of the parties.

Summit in Paris

Today in Paris, Ukraine's allies will gather to agree on their contribution to future security guarantees for Kyiv in the event of a cessation of hostilities with Russia. The negotiations are taking place within the framework of forming a common position between Ukraine, Europe, and the US, which may subsequently be presented to Moscow.

One of the key topics of the meeting is the possible deployment of foreign military contingents on Ukrainian territory after a ceasefire is established. Representatives of the General Staffs and Defense Ministries arrived in Paris the day before.

The Chief of the General Staff of the French Armed Forces, General Fabien Mandon, said that the heads of the general staffs of the Coalition of the Willing countries had already held a meeting in Paris. They discussed security guarantees for Ukraine and practical mechanisms for their implementation.

The parties plan to finalize security documents with a focus on the protection and restoration of Ukraine, after which a series of negotiations in the US is planned.

During his visit to France, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will take part in a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing and hold separate talks with French President Emmanuel Macron.
