The chiefs of staff of the armed forces of the Coalition of the Willing countries discussed security guarantees for Ukraine and the mechanisms for their practical implementation during a meeting in Paris, according to General Fabien Mandon, Chief of the General Staff of the French Armed Forces.
He held talks with the UK Chief of the Defense Staff General Rich Knighton, the General Staff Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine General Andrii Hnatov, and the Commander of the United States European Command General Alexus Grynkewich.
Fabien Mandon stated that security guarantees for Ukraine and the conditions for their implementation were at the center of discussions during a videoconference with the chiefs of staff of the armed forces of the Coalition of the Willing.
He added that the ongoing military operations, which have been underway for several months within the coalition and in cooperation with the US, are intended to support political efforts to achieve lasting peace in Europe.
Paris summit
Earlier reports said that Ukraine's allies will gather in Paris on January 6 to clarify their contributions to future security guarantees for Kyiv in the event of a ceasefire with Russia.
The meeting is part of broader efforts to shape a shared position among Ukraine, Europe, and the US, which could later be presented to Russia. Key agenda items include the potential deployment of foreign troops to Ukrainian territory following a ceasefire.
The Coalition of the Willing includes countries that have already signaled their readiness to deploy to Ukraine once hostilities end. In early January, the Ukrainian President also said that representatives of the general staffs and the defense sector had traveled to Paris for a series of meetings.
Further, work is planned on security documents at the leadership level, with a focus on security guarantees and Ukraine's recovery. This will be followed by a series of meetings in the US involving a broad group of countries.
On January 6, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will visit Paris to attend a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing and meet his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron.
