The Moscow oil refinery has completely halted operations following a large-scale Ukrainian drone attack. Precision strikes caused critical damage to processing equipment and fuel storage tanks, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports.

Aftermath of attack, extensive damage

The military confirmed successful strikes on targets at the facility during the large-scale attacks on Russian infrastructure assets, carried out on June 18 and overnight into June 19.

Satellite images released by the military clearly show the aftermath of explosions and fire.

As a result of the drone strike, a major oil processing unit at the Moscow refinery was destroyed, along with three fuel storage tanks, each with a capacity of 10,000 cubic meters, and one large tank with a capacity of 30,000 cubic meters.

Due to the damage, the refinery has suspended oil processing operations indefinitely.

Fuel crisis in Russia, strikes on oil refineries

Ukrainian Defense Forces regularly carry out precise strikes on Russian fuel and energy infrastructure facilities that supply fuel to their troops.

On the morning of June 18, unknown drones massively attacked Moscow city and region, causing large-scale fires at a local oil refinery.

Later, international media reported that the plant's most critical facility had been hit. Reuters learned that the attack damaged the Euro+ refining unit, which was launched as part of the refinery's modernization program.

The General Staff later confirmed that Ukrainian drones had completely shut down the Moscow oil refinery and suspended oil processing for an indefinite period due to critical damage to four large storage tanks and processing units.

The systematic destruction of Russian fuel infrastructure has already triggered deep economic consequences for the country. As reported by media outlets, fuel is burning across Russia due to drone strikes, multimillion-dollar contracts are being disrupted, and oil depot operators and their clients are filing lawsuits over the destruction of hundreds of tons of gasoline and diesel fuel.
