Ukrainian military personnel have joined consultations on the future operation of the Strait of Hormuz, according to Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Participation in Strait of Hormuz talks
According to Zelenskyy, Ukrainian forces are involved in talks on the future operation of the Strait of Hormuz. He stressed that safe navigation is a global value, and Ukraine has relevant experience from protecting shipping in the Black Sea.
"It is important that everyone in the world values this as well," the President said.
Export of security expertise
Zelenskyy also said that Ukraine is working with European partners and countries in the Middle East on supply-related cooperation. This is part of a new model of cooperation: Ukraine exports security and, in return, receives what it needs for domestic resilience and energy security.
He noted that Middle Eastern countries currently at war needed urgent expertise and rapid response.
"Ukrainian expertise has proven effective — everyone acknowledges this. As a result, there are long-term agreements on security cooperation," the President emphasized.
Plans regarding Europe and Asia
In the coming weeks, Zelenskyy said, the focus will be on working with European partners: joint production, defense modernization, financing programs, and coordination of security efforts.
There is also a corresponding request from Asian countries, and the President has instructed that it be addressed promptly.
The key is to continuously ensure Ukraine has real capabilities for defense, he added.
On April 6, Zelenskyy said Ukraine had sent Russia a proposal for an energy ceasefire.
On April 5, a trilateral meeting between Ukraine, Syria, and Türkiye took place in Damascus, where defense cooperation and food security were discussed.
On the same day, the President said that Russia had provided Iran with satellite intelligence data on more than 50 civilian energy facilities in Israel.
These developments come amid the war between the United States and Israel against Iran, which is now in its sixth week. Iran has effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping, triggering a record surge in oil prices.
