On April 5, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a trilateral meeting in Damascus in Ukraine-Syria-Türkiye format, focusing on defense cooperation and food security.
According to President Zelenskyy, two meetings took place in Damascus: a bilateral one with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa and the leaders' teams, and a trilateral one including representatives from Ukraine, Syria, and Türkiye.
"We managed to discuss everything, from security and defense issues and regional developments related to Iran, to energy and infrastructure cooperation between our countries. We will also continue work on food security," Ukraine's leader assured.
He also mentioned that the Ukraine-Russia negotiation process was part of the discussions and thanked the Syrians who welcomed the Ukrainian delegation during the visit.
"Ukraine was among the first to support the new Syria after the fall of Assad's regime. We are ready to continue supporting stability and development. We will work even more together so that our peoples and countries become stronger and our economies can grow stronger as well," Zelenskyy added.

On April 5, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Syria for an official visit to discuss security and economic cooperation. This marks the first visit by a Ukrainian president to Syria since 2002, when then-leader Leonid Kuchma met with then-President Bashar al-Assad.
Later, Zelenskyy reported that he held talks with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa. According to the Ukrainian president, the meeting yielded agreements on the exchange of military experience, defense cooperation, and security.
