President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Kyiv has passed a proposal to Moscow regarding an energy ceasefire, according to Zelenskyy’s statement on Telegram.
"If Russia is ready to stop strikes on our energy infrastructure, we will be ready to respond in kind. And such a proposal has been conveyed to the Russian side through the Americans," President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed.
Easter ceasefire
On March 30, the Ukrainian president answered a question about whether Ukraine would propose an Easter ceasefire to the aggressor country and what international guarantees would be needed to ensure that Russia does not "use the pause to strengthen its military positions."
"We have supported any formats to end the war, you know that, but only when they (Russia - ed.) do not compromise the dignity and independence of our state. A ceasefire, in any form, as we discussed today, whether full or limited to energy infrastructure, we are ready for a ceasefire during the Easter holidays," he emphasized.
The head of state added that "normal people who respect life" speak about a ceasefire and ending the war permanently, not just for a few days.
In response, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that "no clear initiative regarding an Easter ceasefire" had come from the Ukrainian president.
At the same time, the Institute for the Study of War noted that Ukraine continues to offer concessions and demonstrate readiness for negotiations with Russia, while the Kremlin shows no interest in a ceasefire or peace talks.
Later, Russia launched a massive strike on Ukraine using more than 700 Shahed drones, and Zelenskyy stressed that this was Russia’s "response" to the proposal for an Easter ceasefire.
