Ukrainian Defense Forces used domestically designed weapons to strike targets in the Moscow region of Russia, hitting a microchip plant and an oil pumping station. The successful operation sparked fires at the facilities, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Ukrainian weapons used near Moscow

The military informs that, on the night of May 17, units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces struck several key Russian facilities.

Ukrainian in-house-designed weapons, including RS-1 Bars, FP-1 Firepoint, and BARS-SM GLADIATOR drones, were successfully used to strike targets in the Moscow region.

Military leadership expressed gratitude for the effective work of servicemembers from the 412th Separate Unmanned Systems Brigade, the 107th Rocket Artillery Brigade, the 19th Missile Brigade Saint Varvara, and other units of the Security and Defense Forces of Ukraine.

The attack near Moscow resulted in hitting the Angstrem enterprise in Zelenograd. The facility specializes in producing microchips for precision weapons and is a key part of the Russian military-industrial complex.

Also, the Solnechnogorskaya pumping station caught fire. It is a critical component of the ring oil product pipeline around Moscow and supplies fuel to the Russian military.

Russian command posts and manpower heavily hit

In addition to deep strikes in the rear, Ukrainian forces also targeted hostile positions along the front line and in Russia's border regions.

In particular, a Russian command post near Bunge of the Donetsk region was hit, as well as drone control centers in Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Kherson regions.

Concentrations of enemy manpower in Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions, as well as in the settlement of Volfinskiy of the Kursk region, Russia, also came under fire.

"The Defense Forces of Ukraine will continue to take consistent measures to fully stop the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine," the General Staff emphasized.

Background

On the night of May 17, Russia faced one of the largest attacks of the full-scale war. Monitoring channels initially reported up to 300 drones in motion, and later, residents of the Moscow region reported mass explosions. Russian authorities claimed more than 70 drones were shot down.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense later confirmed strikes on several strategic targets in Moscow and the surrounding region. In particular, the Moscow Oil Refinery, the Solnechnogorskaya oil depot, and microelectronics manufacturing facilities were hit for the first time.

Later, the Security Service of Ukraine clarified that the joint operation with the Defense Forces aimed to weaken Russia's military potential.

In addition to military and industrial and oil infrastructure in the Moscow region, Ukrainian defenders also successfully struck the Belbek military airfield in temporarily occupied Crimea.
