The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), together with the Defense Forces, struck a military-industrial complex enterprise and several oil facilities in the Moscow region, as well as the military airfield Belbek in Crimea, according to the SBU.
The following were hit in the Moscow region:
- Angstrem plant, which supplies semiconductors for the Russian military-industrial complex and is under US sanctions
- Moscow oil refinery
- Sonechnogorsk oil loading station
- Volodarskoye oil pumping station.
In temporarily occupied Crimea, the infrastructure and air defense assets of the military airfield Belbek were hit, including:
- Pantsir-S2 anti-aircraft system
- Hangar with a radar for the S-400 system
- UAV control system Orion and the ground control station for the Forpost UAV
- Ground-to-air data transmission point
- Control tower and a hangar at the Belbek airfield.
“Such SBU special operations are of critical importance for weakening the military potential of the Russian Federation. Strikes on military-industrial enterprises, military infrastructure, and oil logistics reduce the enemy’s ability to continue the war against Ukraine. These strikes demonstrate that even the most protected Moscow region is not safe,” said the head of the SBU, Yevhenii Khmara.
Attack on Moscow and Crimea
On the night of May 17, unidentified drones launched a massive attack on Moscow and the surrounding region. Russians repeatedly reported explosions. Before that, it was also loud in occupied Crimea.
As a result of the drone attack on Moscow and the region, facilities such as a technology park, a manufacturing plant, an oil refinery, an airport, and a petroleum product loading station were hit.
Later, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense confirmed strikes on several facilities in Moscow and the Moscow region, including an oil refinery, an oil depot, and microelectronics manufacturing plants.
