Ukrainian Armed Forces take control of 82 settlements in Kursk region - Army chief
Ukrainian forces continue their offensive operation in Russia's Kursk region, with the Armed Forces of Ukraine having taken control of 82 settlements so far, according to a statement from Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi during the meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Staff.
"Since the beginning of the operation in the Kursk region, our forces have advanced 35 kilometers, taking control of 1,150 square kilometers of territory and 82 settlements," Syrskyi said.
According to him, the overall situation in the Russian region is under control.
The Commander-in-Chief also noted that, in addition to the city of Sudzha, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have completed the search and destroy mission in three more settlements.
In his daily address, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also spoke about the successes of Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region.
"The Commander-in-Chief provided a special update on the operation in the Kursk region. There has been further advancement. Our exchange fund has been replenished. Additionally, General Syrskyi reported the completion of the liberation of the city of Sudzha from Russian troops. A Ukrainian military commandant's office is now being established there. Several other settlements have also been liberated, bringing the total to over 80," he said.
Ukrainian army's offensive in the Kursk region
On July 6, Ukrainian forces launched an offensive in Russia's Kursk region. The operation aims to protect residents of Ukraine's border regions from Russian shelling.
On August 13, Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi reported that Ukrainian troops had taken control of 40 square kilometers and were overseeing 74 settlements in the Kursk region.
Yesterday, it was reported that Ukrainian forces had fully cleared the city of Sudzha of Russian troops.
Additionally, Ukraine has established a military commandant's office in the Kursk region, headed by Major General Eduard Moskaliov.
