Finland’s president may join Zelenskyy for meeting with Trump - Politico

EU leaders are concerned that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will not receive the same friendly treatment from US President Donald Trump as that shown to Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to Politico.
As the outlet writes, the EU has decided to take steps to improve Kyiv’s chances. In particular, according to Politico’s sources, one of Trump’s favorite interlocutors, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, may travel to the US together with Zelenskyy.
“The idea is that Stubb can help prevent any flare-ups between Trump and Zelenskyy and convince the U.S. president to include Europe in any further talks,” Politico writes.
Trump-Putin meeting
US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks on Friday, August 15 (overnight from August 15 to 16 Kyiv time), at a military base in Anchorage, Alaska.
After the talks, the leaders held a joint press conference, but journalists were not allowed to ask questions. Later, Trump stated that no agreement on Ukraine had been reached, although some progress had been made.
It was also reported that Trump held phone calls with Zelenskyy and NATO leaders.
It is currently known that Trump wants to hold a trilateral meeting with the leaders of Ukraine and Russia next Friday, August 22. However, Putin has not publicly committed to participating in such a meeting.
Zelenskyy himself stated that on Monday, August 18, he will meet with Trump in Washington.
