Witkoff reports 'substantive progress' in talks on ending war in Ukraine

After meetings in Moscow and Kyiv, the US side reported progress in the peace process and in coordinating a schedule for the next round of talks, according to a statement by US President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff on Twitter (X).
At the direction of US President Donald Trump, American negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner visited Moscow and Kyiv. The purpose of the trip was to facilitate further dialogue on ending the Russia-Ukraine war.
Following the meetings, the US side said that "substantive progress" had been made. In particular, the sides agreed on a schedule for additional trilateral talks.
However, the statement did not provide specific dates or other details about the upcoming meetings.
"Substantive progress was made, including movement on scheduling additional trilateral talks. President Trump is working hard to stop the killing and work towards a lasting and durable peace," Witkoff said in summarizing the talks.
On September 6, the US delegation arrived in Kyiv, where it held several rounds of talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Before traveling to the Ukrainian capital, the special envoys held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin on September 5. The meeting lasted more than three hours.
