Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced his meeting with US President Donald Trump, scheduled for this Monday.

"Thank you for the support! All the points mentioned are important to achieve a truly sustainable and reliable peace. We see that Russia rebuffs numerous calls for a ceasefire and has not yet determined when it will stop the killing. This complicates the situation," the President said.

He emphasized that Russia’s reluctance to even follow a simple order to halt attacks may necessitate considerable effort to steer it toward a more significant goal — peaceful coexistence with its neighbors for decades.

"But together we are working for peace and security," Zelenskyy added.

The President also said coordination with international partners took place throughout the day.

According to him, new talks are already scheduled, and on Monday, he will meet with US President Donald Trump. He plans to discuss all details regarding the end of the killings and the end of the war.

"I am grateful for the invitation. It is important that everyone agrees there needs to be a conversation at the level of leaders to clarify all the details and determine which steps are necessary and will work," he stressed.

Trump-Putin meeting

US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks on Friday, August 15 (Kyiv time: the night of August 15–16), at a military base in Anchorage, Alaska.

The next morning, August 16, while traveling from Alaska to Washington, Trump held phone calls with Zelenskyy and NATO leaders.

It is also known that Trump wants to hold a trilateral meeting with the leaders of Ukraine and Russia next Friday, August 22. However, Putin has not publicly promised to attend such a meeting.
