Trump plans trilateral meeting with Zelenskyy and Putin on August 22 - Axios

US President Donald Trump plans a trilateral meeting with Ukraine and Russia next Friday, August 22, Axios reports.
On the night of August 15–16, Trump met with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska. The summit focused on the war in Ukraine and possible ways to end it.
Shortly after the meeting, Trump spoke by phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders. He expressed a desire to organize the trilateral meeting quickly.
"Trump told Zelensky and the other participants in the call that he wants to hold a trilateral summit fast, as early as August 22," two sources told Axios.
Axios notes that Putin has not publicly committed to the meeting.
Territories-for-peace deal
After the summit, Trump and Putin held a press conference. They made several statements but did not answer journalists’ questions.
Later, Trump gave an interview to Fox News. He also spoke with Zelenskyy and European leaders and posted several messages on social media.
In the interview, he advised Zelenskyy to make a deal with Russia. He suggested it could result from a trilateral meeting between the leaders of Ukraine, the US, and Russia. He added that the next steps depend on the Ukrainian president.
Trump also wrote on social media that all parties agreed the best way to end the war is a peace agreement, not a ceasefire.
Media reports detailed discussions between Trump and Putin and what he relayed to Zelenskyy and European leaders.
According to reports, Putin is ready to halt military operations in the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions in exchange for a full withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from Donbas. US officials say Putin is also willing to discuss withdrawing Russian troops from the Sumy and Kharkiv regions. However, Zelenskyy reportedly refused to give up Donbas.
It is also known that on Monday, the Ukrainian president will travel to Washington to discuss ending the war.
Ahead of the Trump-Putin summit, the US president said he planned to meet with the Kremlin leader and then organize a trilateral summit.
