The area of fighting in the Kursk region could have expanded to the borders of the fourth district, Glushkovo, where local authorities have already announced evacuations. The Ukrainian Armed Forces have taken control of several settlements, one of which is located about 17 kilometers from Glushkovo. Despite a slight slowdown in the pace of the operation, it continues.

RBC-Ukraine reports on the location of the fighting and the Ukrainian Armed Forces' progress in the Kursk region.

Yesterday, a video of the removal of the Russian flag from the House of Culture in the village of Vnezapnoe, Korenevo district, was shared on social media.

In addition, a video showing the removal of the Russian flag from the House of Culture was also posted from the village of Liubimovka.

However, while Liubimovka was already in the area controlled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the video from Vnezapnoe confirms the expansion of the combat zone in the southeast of Korenevo district, and the border with the neighboring Glushkovo district is only 2.5 km away.

At the same time, yesterday, the Russian Ministry of Defence's Telegram channel Rybar wrote that the situation in the area was ‘covered in the fog of war’ and that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had probably also occupied the village of Viktorovka (about 1 km from Vnezapnoe) and could be present in Gordeevka.

As of the end of 14 August, Ukrainian troops were present in Vnezapnoe and Gordeevka, while the status of Uspenovka and Viktorovka ‘remains in question’.

Fighting also continues to the north of Vnezapnoe, in the village of Snagost.

The so-called Russian military commanders wrote that the Ukrainian Armed Forces were also spotted in the neighboring Krasnooktyabrskoe, which is even closer to the border with Glushkovo district - about 1 km away, and only about 10 km from the district center - the village of Glushkovo with a population of about five thousand people.

The Russian propaganda Telegram channel Readovka writes about the night clashes near Korenevo. Russia complains that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are trying to establish control over the settlement. The Russians also write about the fighting at the border in the Belgorod region, namely near Kolotilovka, where the checkpoint is located.

Meanwhile, the Institute of War Studies, using geolocated footage, reports that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are also operating in the eastern part of the village of Zhuravli (west of Korenevo and 20 km from the international border), which indicates that Ukrainian forces are advancing in the eastern part of the village.

ISW also writes about the Ukrainian Armed Forces' advance beyond Martynovka (northeast of Sudzha), citing Ukrainian media reports. Geo-located footage from 14 August also shows Ukrainian forces moving in the area of the village of Ulanok (southeast of Sudzha) and in the western part of Kamyshnoe (southeast of Sudzha).

According to the Institute for War Studies, Russians are digging trenches and building a defensive line near Luhansk, along the Rylsk-Luhansk-Kurchatov-Kursk road. According to the authors, this indicates that Russian troops are expecting further advances from the Ukrainians.

The analysts conclude that, despite a slight slowdown in the operation, Ukrainian troops are operating well within the declared area of advance and also continue to operate closer to the international border in the Kursk region.

Ukrainian Armed Forces operation in Kursk region

The breakthrough of the Russian border took place on 6 August 2024. Since then, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have managed to expand their foothold and take control of Sudzha and dozens of other settlements.

Yesterday, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy convened a meeting to discuss the possibility of establishing military commandant's offices in the Russian region. In addition, the military is planning to open a humanitarian corridor for Russian civilians both towards Ukraine and Russia.

Meanwhile, new reports of the capture of a large number of Russian soldiers are beginning to arrive. Yesterday alone, there were more than 100 of them.

Ukrainian ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets said that the military operation in the Kursk region has already forced Russians to take the initiative to resume negotiations on the exchange of prisoners of war.
