Ukraine establishes military commandant’s office in Kursk region, led by General Moskalev
Ukraine has established a military commandant's office in the Kursk region, led by Major General Eduard Moskalev, according to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, during the Meeting of the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief.
According to him, Ukrainian forces completed the search and destruction of the enemy in the town of Sudzha and three other settlements in the Kursk region.
"To maintain law and order and ensure the urgent needs of the population in the controlled territories, a military commandant's office was created. Major General Moskalev was appointed as its head," Syrskyi said.
He noted that since the beginning of the operation in the Kursk region, Ukrainian forces have advanced 35 kilometers into the enemy's defenses. A total of 1,150 square kilometers and 82 settlements have been controlled. The situation there is under control.
What's happening in the Kursk region
Since August 6, a special operation by the Armed Forces of Ukraine has been ongoing in the Kursk region. This was officially confirmed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on August 12.
On August 14, Syrskyi stated that Ukrainian forces had taken control of an area covering 40 square kilometers. That same day, Zelenskyy held a meeting regarding the situation in the Kursk region and the possibility of establishing military commandant's offices.
Today, it was reported that SSU fighters captured more than 100 Russian soldiers in the Kursk region, among them members of the Kadyrov unit "Akhmat."
